Christine Lynn shares memories from her annual visit to the Mulanji Mission Hospital in Malawi

Each year, Finnebrogue generously donates at least 3 per cent of its profits to support good causes at home and abroad.

Through its charitable arm, the Denis Lynn Foundation, and the Good Little Company Charity, Finnebrogue has been supporting the Mulanje Mission Hospital and its orphan feeding programme in Malawi since 2015. During this time, we have almost eradicated childhood malaria deaths, delivered extensive orphan care programmes and worked with the community to develop more sustainable agriculture techniques.

In March 2025, Christine Lynn, Finnebrogue’s owner, visited the Mulanji Mission Hospital to see the valuable work being carried out at the hospital and community outreach programmes. She met with charity workers, teachers and the medical teams who work tirelessly in the “poorest, most peaceful place on Earth”.

Our philosophy has always been to help people to help themselves. We have provided medical treatment, schooling and care for hundreds of orphans, with the work being conducted from the Denis Lynn Orphan Care Centre situated in the grounds of the hospital.

We have trained 60 farmers not just to grow crops to eat, but to diversify into growing crops that can be sold for cash. Food insecurity in Malawi is a huge challenge. If farmers don’t have effective irrigation they struggle to provide food security for their communities – stifling economic development. That is why we have supported new irrigation schemes.

In 2017, we introduced the malaria control vector spraying initiative with the aim to reduce childhood malaria mortality across the Mulanje region. Thanks to this initiative, Christine was reminded that childhood malaria deaths have all but eradicated in the district.
